Joe Gans 150th Celebration!
In 2025, we proudly celebrate the 150th birthday of Joe Gans, Baltimore’s own boxing pioneer and the first Black American world boxing champion. This year-long tribute honors his legacy through community events, educational programs, and special partnerships that highlight his impact on the sport and the city.
Corner Team, Inc. and its Joe Gans 150th Initiative received a Baltimore Heritage Award for their Living History Day program at Mount Auburn Cemetery. The event welcomed over 200 guests to explore the legacy of the many pioneers buried at one of Baltimore’s first African American cemeteries, established in 1872. Its success has inspired new partnerships and plans to make Living History Day an annual tradition celebrating the stories of Mount Auburn’s 70,000 residents.
